We had a fantastic first weekend at Ascot Vale Special School, the target of this year's Probuild Community Project.
The Ascot Vale Special School presently has 113 pupils of primary and secondary age. The students have mild intellectual abilities with IQ of 50-70. Most students finish schooling to a TAFE and VCAL level. The students are from all over Melbourne, with some travelling almost two hours to attend. The school has a small fundraising committee that raises approximately $400 per annum. Whilst the facilities are clean they are old and run down and could use some TLC.
The Community project Design Team has worked hard to develop ideas around the areas the school has highlighted. These works include painting of existing rooms, additional shed for storing equipment, a hot house and an outdoor learning centre for Horticulture classes.
Thanks to all our enthusiastic staff volunteers, we have already been able to hand over the sand-pit and new AstroTurf area for use. Works will continue this weekend, with more renovations still to be completed.
