Highpoint Shopping Centre has won the Property Council of Australia’s Victorian Development of the Year award in competition against a diverse field of 26 other retail, commercial, residential and business park developments.
In 2013, Probuild completed the centre's 150,000 square metre expansion for co-owners GPT Wholesale Shopping Centre Fund, Highpoint Property Group and The GPT Group.
The development included a new fresh food precinct, David Jones tenancy, 100 specialty stores and 1,000 new car parks. It also featured the construction of a unique Eco Spine roof, forming a connecting link between the existing mall and new retail area and fresh food market.
During construction, Probuild successfully implemented the integrated ESD principles including use of recycled materials, energy efficient lighting and natural ventilation into the design. Close collaboration with the client and architect (The Buchan Group) helped resolve challenging constructability issues to ensure the balance between the functional and experiential elements of the project.
The development of the centre not only delivered an extensively enhanced retail offering and an innovative design outcome, but also created significant job opportunities, improved traffic flow, new public spaces and introduced a range of sustainability initiatives.
In 2005, Probuild completed the southern expansion of the centre while it is also currently delivering the redevelopment of the Level 1 leisure and food precinct.
The Property Council of Australia's national Innovation and Excellence Awards will be held this Friday, 1 May. Highpoint Shopping Centre is entered in the Best Shopping Centre Development category.
